The Multi-Cultural Festial of West Virginia

I would like to write an article about the Multi-Cultural Festival of West Virginia - MultiFest. MultiFest is an annual celebration of ethnic diversity and multiculturalism in the Mountain State. Created in 1990, to highlight and promote cultural diversity in West Virginia, Multifest has quickly become one of the largest educational, family-oriented events in the area. This festival is held the first weekend of August and takes place on the beautiful State of West Virginia Capitol grounds in Charleston. At Multifest, partons will be able to indulge in great Soul Food and a variety of musical genres. My article will be approximately 2500 words and will take 3 to 4 weeks to complete.

  1. I love the idea of an article featuring Multifest, but I would ask that you consider what you wish to feature. For instance, Multifest isn't until August, so you can't actually cover it as it happens. Perhaps you can talk to the folks involved in getting the festival together--what's required (permits, time tables, etc), how much does it cost, how many people are needed, and so on. I leave the choice of focus up to you.

  2. Who do you plan to talk to about Multifest? Do you have any interview subjects in mind?

  3. I plan to interview Debbie and Steve Starks - founders of Multifest. I am friends of both. I want the reader to understand how and why the festival was born. This festival has a very interesting beginning - an alternative to the Sternwheel Regatta. Twenty years ago, the founders wanted entertainment that appealed to all cultures, race, etc. While Multi-Fest is not held until August, I plan to educate the reader as to when, where, how much and what to expect there. I feel the timing is actually good - something to look forward to.
